Tab Manager Comparison

Duotang vs. everything

Not all tab managers work the same way. There are five categories — and which one a tool belongs to matters more than any feature list. These pages break down how Duotang compares to each.

Genuine workspace

Tabs stay alive across every context switch. The only category where working state — drafts, scroll, video, WebSockets — survives. Duotang and Workona are the only Chrome extensions in this category; the differences are pricing, privacy, and features.

Tab list

Save URLs, destroy and recreate tabs on every switch. Working state is lost on every context change. Most "workspace" extensions fall into this category despite the branding.

Session saver

Snapshot open tabs at a point in time for later restoration. Useful for crash recovery — not designed for daily context switching. Architecturally identical to tab lists.

Memory manager

Suspend idle tabs to free RAM. Largely superseded by Chrome's built-in Memory Saver, which handles most use cases for free.

Genuine workspace
Standalone browser

Browsers with genuine workspace features built in. Tabs stay alive — same architectural benefit as Duotang — but require switching away from Chrome entirely.
